FAQ:

  • Can I buy only the lessons I’m interested in?

You can’t buy only one or two or three classes. You need to buy at least four classes (belonging to the same term). In other words, you can buy one term, two terms or the entire course.

  • What happens if I can’t attend a lesson?

We understand participants may miss a lesson in a group course due to various reasons. In the case of short courses (consisting of only 4 lessons) participants who miss one lesson may receive a 25 GBP-coupon as a refund for one missed lesson (up to two if you bought the whole course). Please note that in order to qualify for the coupon, you must inform the admin team (email addressed to info[@]onlineitalianclasses.com) of your non-attendance at least 24 hours before the lesson starts. Customers will be able to use the coupon for buying any product on the Online Italian Classes shop.

  • What happens if I’m not able to inform the admin team in time?

In this scenario, you can still email the admin team (email addressed to info[@]onlineitalianclasses.com) explaining your reasons for non-attendance and ask for the coupon. The admin team will then evaluate your request at their discretion.

  • What happens if the course doesn’t reach the minimum number of participants?

If the course you bought doesn’t reach the minimum number of participants, we will send you a 100-GBP or 200-GBP coupon code – accordingly to the amount of your purchase – which will be valid on any product on the Online Italian Classes shop (for example, you can use it for buying a pack of one-to-one lessons and ask for an individual course about the same topic and led by the same teacher of the course). You can also decide to freeze your credit and use it next time (we will try to organise the following course according to your availability.

  • How do I know if my level of Italian is OK for this course?

This course is suitable for learners ranging from levels B1 (Intermediate) to B2 (Upper-Intermediate) or more, which means – despite making mistakes and encountering obstacles – you can enter unprepared into conversation on topics that are familiar, of personal interest or pertinent to everyday life and even take an active part in the discussion. Please check the CEFR self-assessment grid if you have any doubts and remember that what your teacher really needs from you – in order to make things work – is just curiosity about the topic and the will to share your point of you with the participants.

Barbara B.

Online Italian Teacher

The Singing Italy: A Musical Journey into Italian Contemporary History.

Let me introduce myself

My name is Barbara, I’m thirty-something,Β I live in London, and I’m the founder of this school. I’ve worked for a while in the marketing offices of both large and small companies, in Milan, Piacenza, and Barcelona, Spain. Since 2017, I’ve been working as aΒ freelancer, first as a copywriter and then as an Italian teacher for foreigners. Despite having various experiences in both fields, theΒ impostor syndromeΒ has never left me. So, at a certain point, I gatheredΒ the best teachers I could findΒ and started this online school, which has never ceased toΒ amaze meΒ with the great satisfaction it gives me every day.

My lessons

Teaching online means dealing with people who can be very different in terms of age, background, interests, and Italian proficiency level. I try to dedicate a part of the lesson to stimulateΒ spontaneous conversationΒ and make the students feel comfortable. In the second part of the lesson, I usually focus onΒ linguistic aspects that can be improved. I also assign homework: sometimes grammar exercises, other times written texts, watching videos, or listening to podcasts. I like to diversifyΒ based on the time and attitudeΒ my students demonstrate each time. I always take into consideration their personal commitments and the fact that they mayΒ haveΒ more energy or be more tiredΒ during a certain period.

For Online Italian Classes I am the curator of the group course The Singing Italy: A Musical Journey into Italian Contemporary History.

My students

I’ve had students from very different parts of the world, mainly from the UK and the USA, but also from Europe (including Italy), Australia, Africa and Asia. Often their routines are very different from mine. These differences have never been an obstacle but rather an enrichment of the teaching experience. Even group courses are characterized by this beautiful diversity, which is one of the aspects I love most about online teaching.

My passions

I’ve often thought I don’t have great passions, but maybe I have some small ones.Β WritingΒ is certainly at the top: it’s the activity that relaxes me the most when I’m stressed and consoles me when I’m sad.Β I also enjoy singing, in a totally amateur way, ever since my father accompanied me with the guitar when I was little. When I was younger, I danced modern dance, thenΒ I became passionate about Argentine tango. Every year I used to go skiing with my dad and my friends, before it became too expensive, and I started questioning the sustainability of this sport. I ask myself the same questions every time I have to take a plane, and unfortunately, lately, this happens very often. For a few years now, I’ve been living in England withΒ a little childΒ that the grandparents want to see as much as possible!

Eleonora S.

Online Italian Teacher

Mi presento

Ciao!

Nelle mie lezioniΒ mi interesserΓ² molto a te.

Let me introduce myself

Hi! I’m Eleonora, I’m 36 years old, and I have a bit of a wandering past. I graduated in Philosophy in Trento, and then… I started traveling.

I worked as an intercultural operator in various international contexts, including Africa. When I returned to Italy, I began teaching history and philosophy in schools.

Today, I’m a private tutor, and also a mom. A few years ago, I also earned the CEDILS certification for teaching Italian as a foreign language.

I teach English, but more than anything else, I love teaching Italian β€” I love teaching my native language, the language of my emotions.

My lessons

To be honest, besides writing, I love communicating. In my lessons, I’ll be very interested in you.

We’ll talk about interests, passions, work, family life… and anything else that comes up.

So, a typical lesson with me has a communicative focus, but also an emotional one. I believe a language is learned best when feelings are involved too.

My students

I always want my students to be happy to have lessons with me. We need to have fun!

We’ll use interactive methods, and you’ll also get to choose the topics we explore.

I love it when mistakes happen β€” especially when we’re dealing with a bit of grammar β€” because making mistakes is one of the fastest ways to learn.

No one is perfect, and there’s always something new to learn. I hope we’ll get the chance to do that together very soon!

My passions

I love reading… though not everything. I’m passionate about both classic and modern novels, and of course, I read philosophy.

I’m a bit lazy when it comes to sports, but I really enjoy my two weekly Pilates sessions.

And I love writing. Whether it’s day or night, whether I have my little girl in my arms or I’m in a quiet room, I always have a pen in hand.

Who knows β€” maybe we’ll have the chance to write something together!

Valentina C.

Online Italian Teacher

Mi presento

Ciao!

That Welcome: How to be Inclusive in Italian.

Let me introduce myself

Hello! I’m Valentina and I come fromΒ Ancona, a small city on the Adriatic Sea. I’ve lived in many countries, such as Argentina and Bolivia, where I spent many months teaching Italian. I graduated in Languages and LiteraturesΒ from β€œCa’ Foscari University”, then inΒ Italian StudiesΒ from the β€œAlma Mater” in Bologna, while working in bookstores and language schools.Β Bologna is a city I’m madly in love with! I lived there with a cat named Zinaida, like the protagonist of a Russian novel. My favorite stress reliever, students got used to her soft presence her during our calls!

My passions

Apart from teaching Italian, I’m involved in literature.Β I read a lot, love discovering new literary expressions, and am passionate about poetry.Β I’m interested in decolonial studies, gender studies, and all novels dealing with these themes. I enjoy writing and collaborate with some blogs and online magazines.Β I also founded a webzineΒ called β€œCrocevia” which includes a section dedicated to young international poets.Β I also love photography and music, especially rock in its various forms and singer-songwriters.

My lessons

I’m interested in creating aΒ serene environmentΒ where you can feel free to express yourself and try without anxiety. I know how difficult it is to approach a new language with the fear of making mistakes. I’ll plan our lessons based on your needs and desires.Β Together, we’ll set goals based on your starting level.Β You can choose from various methods, whether more focused on conversation or grammar, to find what suits you best.Β In each lesson, I’ll leave you links to songs or YouTube videosΒ for full immersion in Italian culture. I’ll also propose fun activities, showing you that learning a language can be truly enjoyable!

For Online Italian Classes I am the curator of the group course Words That Welcome: How to be Inclusive in Italian.

My students

I’ve worked with students from many countries around the world: from Turkey to India, from Malta to Argentina.Β Some live in Italy, some were about to move, others were passionate about Italian cultureΒ and wanted to create tools to better approach the language. With many of them, we’ve met and I’ve acted as a tour guide; it was a beautiful exchange!Β I’ve worked with people very different from each other, adults and young people, in some cases with blindness and specific learning disabilities. Anyone can learn a new language. The key is to find the right approach.

Letizia P.

Hello, my name is Letizia and I come from Bologna, a beautiful city in the North of Italy.

As long as I can remember, my greatest passion has been learning aboutΒ different cultures. As a young kid I quickly realized that, in order to come into contact with foreign traditions and travel, I had to take any chance that would come my way, so I started applying forΒ study trips abroadΒ organized by different associations. In doing so, I got to see places and meet people I never would have had the opportunity to experience otherwise.

These trips allowed me to appreciate customs and beliefs different than my own, they compelled me to be curious and ask questions. Once I finished high school, the natural continuation of my education could only be Foreign Languages: as a matter of fact,Β I believe it’s only through the knowledge of a language that you can properly connect with a culture.

This is why I decided to teach Italian: not only it allows me to help people learn this beautiful language, but it also gives me the chanceΒ to see my culture with new eyes.

Besides traveling, I am passionate about literature, cinema, tv series and plays.

Any time I have the chance I try going to theΒ cinema or theatreΒ to enjoy a new story. I like to be up to date with pop culture and I am also really interested in gender studies.

I can’t wait to meet you to discuss all of this and much more!

Federica C.

Online Italian Teacher

Mi presento

Ciao!

Per Online Italian Classes ho curato il corso di gruppo The Visionary Fellini, about the famous Italian director Federico Fellini.

Tutti i contesti rigidi e formali mi stanno stretti!

A presto.

Let me introduce myself

Hi! I’m Federica, andΒ I live in a small village nestled in natureΒ in the Ligurian-Emilian Apennines. Before settling in this corner of paradise,Β I lived in other countries and experienced the challenges of learning a second language. That’s why in my lessons, I want to create a comfort zone where it’s possible to try, play, andΒ experiment with the Italian language, regardless of one’s level.

My Lessons

I want my students to think of our lessons asΒ a safe space where they can make mistakesΒ because without errors, there is no learning. I pay attention to each individual’s specific interests andΒ tailor my lessonsΒ accordingly. Some prefer conversation, some need to focus more on grammar and may fear it, some want to clear all doubts in one lesson (and clash with the fact that it’s impossible), while others approach learning with patience.

For Online Italian Classes I was the curator of the group course The Visionary Fellini, about the famous Italian Director Federico Fellini.

My Students

My students come fromΒ many different places: the UK, USA, Brazil, Norway, Malta, Spain, and each has arrived at the decision to study Italian for a different reason. Some have Italian grandparents and want to reconnect with their family’s past, some fell in love with Italy during a vacation, some moved here following love. When my students come to Italy,Β we try to organize meetings. Whenever possible, I like relationships to extend beyond the strict confines of lessons. All rigid and formal contexts feel constricting to me!

My Passions

In addition to teaching Italian,Β I’m an anthropologist and videomaker. I mainly focus on making short documentaries for ethnographic museums and have a good knowledge of Italian history and folklore. Another great passion of mine isΒ Italian cinema, especially the β€œclassic” films of the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s: if you’re interested in cinema, know that you might find in me an overly eager dispenser of film critiques and suggestions for viewing!

See you soon.

Elisa M.

Online Italian Teacher

Ciao!

Hello!

My name is Elisa, and I come fromΒ Bologna, a city known in Italy for the red color of its houses, the food, and the ancient university. I hold a Master’s degree inΒ anthropologyΒ andΒ history, and I like to teach Italian.

I have lived for two years inΒ Barcelona, Spain. There I worked in an Italian bookshop that offered language classes. It was a wonderful experience that gave me the desire to teach Italian.

Multicultural Barcelona has allowed me toΒ meet people from all over the world.

I discovered how excited I am to learn new things, find myself in new places and talk to people with different stories than mine.

All of this was possible thanks to English and Spanish.

These two languages, which I had to study for study and work reasons, have given me many possibilities and opened the way to new experiences.

And this is what I like the most about learning a language. It allows you to communicate with new people andΒ have access to the whole worldΒ that revolves around it.

As you may have understood, I like to travel, but I am also passionate aboutΒ literature. I enjoy taking long walks andΒ cooking, just as I am passionate aboutΒ current eventsΒ andΒ history.

See you soon, to talk about this and more and learn the Italian language together!

Sara R.

Online Italian Teacher

Mi presento

Ciao,

Let me introduce myself

Hello,

My name is Sara, and I am a teacher specializing in teaching Italian to foreigners. I live in a small town in Piedmont, Acqui Terme.

I have always been passionate about languages, and since I was a child,Β my two biggest dreamsΒ were to travel the world and become a teacher (I used to play with a blackboard and chalk, and my students were imaginary).

So, I pursued aΒ degree in Foreign Languages and Literatures, and during my Erasmus in Caen, France, I finally started making my dreams come true by teaching Italian in a high school as a native speaker. This experience made me realizeΒ what my path was and how I could achieve my goals.

I put my heart and soul into earning aΒ Master’s degree in β€œTeaching Italian as a Non-Native Language” at the University for Foreigners of Perugia. I then continued my studies with aΒ Master’s degree in LinguisticsΒ in Turin and further enriched my training in Perugia by obtaining theΒ DILS II-level certification (Didactics of Italian as a Foreign Language).

Thanks to university projects, I taught Italian to foreign students in some schools in Turin, and I used this valuable experience to develop my master’s thesis on learning Italian as a foreign language.

In 2019, I moved toΒ Melbourne, Australia, where I worked as a language assistant, teaching Italian in a college for an entire school year.

In 2020, I moved to London, and just as I was settling in and starting to collaborate with some Italian language schools, Covid broke out, and I returned to Italy.

Since then, I have been teachingΒ Italian, History, and Geography in secondary schoolsΒ while keeping my small window to the world open through online Italian lessons.

My Passions

When I have some free time,Β I love spending days outdoorsΒ walking, listening to music, and reading.Β I adore the sea, and whenever possible, I go to Liguria with my partner on the weekends.

I love traveling, getting lost in unknown cities, experiencingΒ the joy of discovery, and meeting new people with whom I can exchange ideas.

I enjoy spending timeΒ with my family in the countryside at my grandparents’ house. I also love being an aunt, although unfortunately, my two wonderful nieces live in Norway. The little time we spend together always flies by too fast, filled with laughter, running, and games.

My Lessons

After years of studying foreign languages myself (on the other side of the desk!), I always try toΒ put myself in my students’ shoes. I aim to create personalized lessons based on their passions and interests, guiding them through the discovery of the Italian language and culture.

My lessons are alwaysΒ rooted in real-life situations, full of practical insights and curiosities about this beautiful country to engage students and make learning enjoyable.

I prefer lessons where students can experience the language through reading, conversation, songs, photos, andΒ authentic materialsΒ that I carefully choose for each person.

Of course,Β grammar tips, proverbs, and idiomsΒ are also included, often accompanied by games that make learning fun and interactive.

For Online Italian Classes I am the curator of the group course Travel to Italy: Beginner Italian for Real Life.

My Students

Over the years, both online and in person, I have worked with studentsΒ from all over the world and of all ages.

I started with French high school students, then worked with children and teenagers from different countries who had moved to Italy, collaborated with Australian high school students, and eventually transitioned to online teaching thanks to this school.

For some reason, most of my students tend to be quite young, and we always find common ground and interesting topics to discuss.

However, in my small group courses, I have also taught older students, sometimes even retirees, who haveΒ shown me a different perspective on life. I truly admire their determination and enthusiasm for lifelong learning.

Mi presento

Ciao a tutti!

conosciuti e siamo ancora in contatto, ovviamenteΒ parlando in italiano.

Let me introduce myself

Hello everyone!

I am a social anthropologist and an Italian language teacher. I have been teaching Italian since 2012, after completing a course in teaching Italian as a second language.Β I have taught in Sarajevo (Bosnia), Tbilisi (Georgia), and Moscow (Russia), and since 2016, I have been teaching onlineβ€”both for convenience and to balance the many interests I try to pursue simultaneously.

In 2023, I obtained aΒ PhD in social anthropologyΒ from the University of Manchester, and since 2024, I have been aΒ postdoctoral researcherΒ at theΒ Migration Department of the Institute of EthnologyΒ in Prague, Czech Republic. In the meantime, I also work as a tour guide for Italians (or Italian speakers) in Georgia.

My lessons

My lessons are aΒ well-balanced mix of performative techniquesΒ that I have acquired over more than ten years of teaching. Through readings, songs, photo analysis, small grammar rules, and much more, I always strive toΒ create engaging β€œrecipes” to keep my students eager to learn Italian.

Over the years, I have developed aΒ dynamic teaching methodΒ tailored to the needs and interests of my students. Perhaps thanks to my anthropological background, I greatly appreciate theΒ cultural exchanges that emerge through language learning.

For me, learning a language meansΒ building bridges between different worlds, and it is always fascinating to see the creative ways in which my students connect their own experiences to Italian culture.

Moreover,Β as a language learner myselfΒ (in addition to English, I have studied Georgian, Russian, Bosnian-Serbo-Croatian, French, and German), I fully understand the challenges and frustrations of learning a new language.

My goal is to make the β€œjourney into Italian” as engaging and rewarding as possible.

For Online Italian Classes I am the curator of two group courses: one about Italian Folklore and a creative writing course about migration (Writing Migration).

My students

Being an Italian teacher has allowed me to meet people who are both amazing and… bizarre.

For example, one of my first online students was an English guy working as a gardener in India.Β We had our Italian lessons during his lunch break under the palm trees, with the wind rustling through the leaves and his phoneβ€”camera onβ€”resting against his ear so he could hear me. And there I was, teaching while staring at an eardrum!

Nowadays, I encourage my students to have theΒ proper setup for online lessonsΒ (screen sharing is often essential in my classes), but I was still proud that he wanted to learn ItalianΒ despite the logistical and geographical challenges.

It’s been almost nine years since we first met, and we’re still in touchβ€”of course,Β speaking Italian.

What I can say is that with all my students, past and present, I have builtΒ relationships of friendship, respect, and admirationβ€”something I never imagined when I first started this job. I feel very lucky.

My passions

Talking about my passions in such a short space is always a challenge, but from what you’ve read so far, you’ve probably gathered that I love traveling, learning new languages, and discovering different worlds.

To that, I’d add a passion for photography, singing, calligraphy, and much moreβ€”things we can explore together if you’d like.

Silvia F.

Let me introduce myself

My name is Silvia, and I live in a small town in northern Italy, near the famous cities of Milan, Como, and Monza.

I am married,Β have two β€œadult” children, and a dog named Argo, who enjoys being present during my lessons…

I have a degree in law, but over time, I discovered my passion for teaching Italian to foreigners. After obtaining the Cedils certification from Ca’ Foscari University in Venice,Β I have been on this path for many years now, and it excites me more and more.

My Passions

I love taking walks in nature, visiting new places, and I relax by reading or painting. But on weekends, I also enjoyΒ going out with friends for dinnerΒ or for a great aperitif.

Moreover, family time is important to me. On holidays or vacations, we all enjoy watching a good movie together orΒ challenging each other in one of our many board gamesΒ (which I like to use, adapting them, with my students during lessons!).

I often listen to music – of many different genres – and every summer,Β I love going to Verona to attend a performance of operaΒ in the magical atmosphere of the Arena.

My Lessons

My lessons focus on conversation. I love discussingΒ various topics, according to the interests of my students: from mindfulness techniques to gardening, without forgetting someΒ grammatical insights, often necessary to better understand the mechanisms that govern the Italian language.

If you decide to take lessons with me, based on your interests and your level of Italian knowledge,Β I will prepare various activitiesΒ for us to do, such as watching movie clips, listening to songs, reading recipes, commenting on books, observing famous works of art, and together we will discover numerous aspects of the β€œBel Paese” culture and have fun with quizzes and other games.

For Online Italian Classes I am the curator of two group courses about art (Da Vinci's Art and Caravaggio's Art) and of the popular Italian Book Club for Non-Native Speakers.

My Students

During lessons, I always try toΒ put students at ease, in a serene and pleasant atmosphere to make language learning more effective, lasting, and also fun.

And so,Β authentic friendships often arise, leading, when possible, to beautiful meetings even in person, here in Italy!
