This course is not suitable for complete beginners in Italian, but It’s totally fine for the participants to make mistakes and not understand everything. This was a very interesting course which traces the key films in Fellini’s career and uses them as a discussion point not only about his techniques but about how his key themes relate to the changes in Italian society in the course of his career. You don’t need to have seen any Fellini films – but even if you are a fan you will be alerted to more of his works and enjoy the excellent teaching of Federica, who has created a well-structured set of four lessons.

I enjoyed this course with Federica very much – I did find it challenging but I do think that I learned a lot about Fellini – his life and his work.
I hadn’t seen very many of his films in the past, but now I’m really looking forward to seeing more and learning more about his work.
The small group of 5 allowed time for good participation and for sharing our homework.
I would definitely join a second course on the work of Fellini or another on Italy portrayed through film.

Each hour of Federica’s course absolutely flies. She is an engaging teacher and her course reveals all kinds of interesting aspects about Fellini, his films and his influences. If you know a little about Fellini and have seen some of his films, this course will give a deeper insight into how he responded to the times in which he lived. However, prior knowledge isn’t necessary because Federica provides background and explanations about everything from his childhhood to the clown themes in many of his films. She speaks clearly and goes over difficult vocabulary so there’s plenty of opportunity to clarify anything you’re not sure of. I’m looking forward to her next course.
